World Paddle Association Class I Certification

Mar 23, 2015

Gary_WiseIf you know Nashville Paddle Co., you know we think SUP is all about fun. But it is about safety, too. If you’re interested in learning more about water safety and paddling technique, with an eye toward teaching standup paddling, you want to consider becoming World Paddle Association (WPA) certified. You’re in luck, because on May 9 we’ll be hosting a WPA Class I certified water/safety instruction workshop with Gary Wise. Wise is the Beach Safety Director at the South Walton Fire District in Florida, and has been surfing and paddling since 1970. He’s a YOLO team rider and an all-around waterman and badass (plus he has a great Australian accent). Wise will be teaching at Hamilton Creek Marina (morning classroom in the clubhouse and then to the water in the afternoon).

Once you register and pay for the certification online you’ll receive a WPA application to complete before class. You must have CPR and First Aid certification to become WPA Class I certified.

Class fee: $340.00  (that includes the $75 WPA yearly fee for the first year) and board, paddle and PFD rental. If you will be bringing your own gear, enter BYOBWPA for $35 off your registration.

If you are already Class I certified and are interested in Class II, e-mail us at info@nashvillepaddle.com to discuss options.
