Up Your SUP at Westy’s Skills Clinics
YOLO Board Team Rider Westy is back and faster than ever. And he wants you to be, too. Westy is coming to Nashville Paddle Co., Music City’s YOLO dealer, to offer two great clinics.
A former race director of Key West Paddleboard Classic and owner of Chicago Paddle Co., Michael Westenberger (a.k.a. Westy) is an elite racer who knows his stuff and he wants to share it with you.

8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. Paddle Stroke Technique Clinic. He’ll break down the aspects of the forward stroke through a combination of land-based instruction and on-water drills.
This 90-minute clinic will cover:
- Major aspects of the SUP stroke
- Creating efficiency during the stroke
After that you’ll be ready to get more advanced, or as Westy says, “Get ugly.”
10:30 a.m. – noon. SUP Racing 101 Clinic is designed to help you overcome first time fears and minimize mistakes, giving you an edge over your competition. The information Westy will share has been gained through race after race and years of trial and error. He will break down the major components of a SUP race and make sure you are prepared every step of the way. This 90-minute clinic will cover:
- Race starts (beach and water)
- Race training
- Buoy turns
- Drafting
- Race strategy (long vs. short course)
Cost for the clinic is $55 each session, including rental board, paddle, PFD and leash or you can BYOB. Those who register for both clinics ($110 total) get $10 off their Music City SUP Race registration (Saturday, July 30, 2016).
